New handbags, shoes, hats, toys, home decor or any other products made of fur will be prohibited in California, if a bill on the way to the governor’s desk is signed.
The California assembly Sept. 11 approved AB44, which would make it unlawful to sell, trade, or manufacture new fur products or risk potential fines of up to $1,000 per illegal product.
If signed, the measure would take effect Jan. 1, 2023. Civil fines are not mandated but could be levied for violations, author Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D) said.
