California Approves Tough New Water Efficiency Standards for Plumbing Fixtures

New efficiency standards for toilets, urinals and faucets approved by California will save about 100 billion gallons of water a year, according to state officials.

Approved April 8 by the California Energy Commission (CEC), the new standards are in response to the drought-related executive order Gov. Jerry Brown (D) issued April 1 2015 WLPM, 4/9/15.

“In the face of California’s current drought, we must use water as efficiently as possible and updating minimum standards for toilets, urinals and faucets is a step in that direction,” CEC Commissioner Andrew McAllister said in an April 8 written statement.
