California Air Regulator Condemns Racism in Policy, Culture

Califorina’s air regulators on Thursday passed their first-ever resolution condemning racism and bias, while also pledging to form an office dedicated to racial justice and the environment.

The California Air Resources Board, or CARB, also approved two new research projects that would look at the social cost of emissions, and the effect of noise and pollutants in disadvantaged areas.

The votes came as environmental justice groups, businesses, and advocacy organizations urged the board to delay action on the anti-bias resolution so it could include input from minority and low-income communities. Others had also asked the board to ensure research efforts ...
