Shareholders of Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. lost their bid to bring claims that company executives made misrepresentations about whether its fracking complied with environmental laws, after a federal judge dismissed the claims with prejudice.
Cabot’s fracking in Susquehanna County, Pa., caused the explosion of an residential water well in 2009, which led to a state investigation that found the company’s well had been leaking methane gas into residential water supplies. The company entered into a series of agreements but disregarded its obligations to fix its wells and was charged criminally in February 2020.
