BVPV Styrenics LLC unlawfully discharged millions of tiny plastic pellets into the Ohio River in northwest Pennsylvania, environmental groups alleged in a federal complaint.
The plastic manufacturing company discharges wastewater from its facility that routinely contains small plastic “nurdles” in violation of its Clean Water Act permits, PennEnvironment Inc. and Three Rivers Waterkeeper said in their complaint. The nurdles transport chemical toxins through aquatic environments, causing a variety of health issues in fish, they said.
