Bureau of Reclamation Expects ‘Near Normal’ Yakima Basin Supply for Irrigation Season

The Bureau of Reclamation expects the water supply in Washington’s Yakima Basin to be “near normal” for the upcoming irrigation season.

“The water supply should be near normal” because weather conditions in February and March “turned this year’s snowpack around,” Chuck Garner, the bureau’s Yakima Project River Operations supervisor, said April 7.

February snowfall marked a dramatic reversal from what was expected to be a drought for the basin, which is home to thousands of acres of fruit trees, hay, hops and vineyards 2014 WLPM, 3/12/14.
