The Biden administration’s requested 19% increase for EPA funding in fiscal 2024 includes big bumps for its environmental justice, climate protection, and chemicals oversight programs, according to a budget justification released by the EPA.
The budget request calls for a 247% increase for environmental justice, some of which would let the agency add 41 more staffers. Overall, the extra funding would be used to broaden the Environmental Protection Agency’s support for states, tribes, and community groups to identify and address environmental justice issues, according to the budget justification.
