Brazil to Phase Out Incandescent Bulbs in Favor of More Energy-Efficient Products

RIO DE JANEIRO—Brazilian manufacturers, importers, and sellers of incandescent bulbs will have to gradually replace the products on retail shelves with far more energy-efficient options under rules that became effective Jan. 6.

Three ministries, Mines and Energy; Science and Technology; and Industry, Development, and Foreign Trade, jointly issued the rules in the form of a norm Dec. 31, Carlos Pires, the Mines and Energy Ministry’s general coordinator of energy efficiency, told BNA Jan. 11.
