Brazil Fines Petrobras for Polluting After Refinery Explosion

Brazil’s state oil company could appeal a 192,750 real ($47,000) fine for air and soil contamination, following an explosion and fire last month at its biggest oil refinery.

Petrobras said it is still studying the cause of the accident at its refinery operations in Petrobras Replan refinery, which was operating at 50 percent capacity, as of Sept. 7.

“We have received the fine and are analyzing it to determine which actions to take to address it,” Petrobras said in a Sept. 10 email to Bloomberg Environment.
