Brazil Allows Net Metering, Cuts Hookup Fees to Encourage Generation From Renewable Energy

RIO DE JANEIRO—Small businesses and homeowners that generate electricity from renewable sources will be allowed to supply it to the electricity grid for credit under a resolution approved April 17 by Brazil’s energy regulator (Aneel).

The resolution (No. 482) also gives large-scale, solar-power generators discounts on grid hookup fees they pay to energy transmission and distribution companies, an Aneel official told BNA.

The resolution took effect upon publication April 19.

The resolution authorizes net metering for small businesses with 100 kilowatts to 1 megawatt of renewable energy generating capacity and homeowners with up to 100 kilowatts of capacity that connect ...
