Bold Newfoundland Oil Plan Must Meet Climate Target, Canada Says

Newfoundland and Labrador’s bullish plan to boost oil and gas production must fit within Canada’s national emissions targets, the federal government said.

Premier Dwight Ball unveiled an ambitious vision document in the capital St. John’s Feb. 19 that included plans to double offshore oil production to 650,000 barrels a day by 2030, drill 100 new exploration wells by that year, and create an offshore natural gas sector in the province.
