BNSF Appeals Finding on Locomotive Exhaust Cancer Link

BNSF Railway appealed an environmental analysis of a coal export terminal in Washington State May 12, arguing against the finding that locomotive exhaust would increase cancer risk to people along the rail route.

The appeal stems from the proposed construction in Longview, Wash., of what would be the largest coal export terminal in North America. The terminal would be capable of handling up to 44 million metric tons of coal annually that is slated for shipping to Asian markets.
