The White House should name Commissioner Willie Phillips as the next chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, two advocacy groups supporting Black civic engagement and economic progress urged in a letter this week.
Phillips is “uniquely qualified to serve as chair and to advance your administration’s goals to promote environmental justice, address climate change, and regulate the transmission of energy across our country,” leaders of the Black Economic Alliance and Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies wrote to President Joe Biden. The groups noted Phillips would be the first Black person to hold the FERC gavel.
