California Wildfires Spur Fresh Action on Forest Management

The Southern California wildfires have injected new momentum into a bipartisan bill released Thursday aimed at strengthening resiliency through active forest management.

Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) and Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) are reintroducing their “Fix Our Forests Act,” which is slated for House floor consideration next week, Westerman said.

The bill would expedite environmental reviews to help prevent catastrophic fires and increase the scope of restoration projects. The legislation also would seek to deter lawsuits that delay what is deemed essential forest management.
