COPENHAGEN—A Swedish study has concluded that the use of ethanol and other biofuels in vehicle fuel results in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of between 65 percent and 140 percent when compared to gasoline or diesel use.
While the report focused mainly on biofuels produced from crops grown in Sweden, its authors said the findings contribute to the general debate over the extent to which such fuels’ climate benefits are lessened by changes in land use related to their production.
