A Georgia chemical plant should be held liable for a recent fire and subsequent release of chemicals, according to a federal class action lawsuit filed on Monday.
The plant in Conyers, Ga., operated by Bio-Lab Inc., caught fire early Sunday morning when a sprinkler sprayed water onto chemicals inside the plant, triggering a chemical reaction.
The fire caused hazardous chemicals, including chlorine-based pool chemicals, to “stream into the air and throughout the surrounding community,” according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia by four residents.
