Major oil companies are urging the Supreme Court to reverse a recent ruling that allows Baltimore to pursue climate-related claims against the industry in state court.

Baltimore’s case is one of several pending lawsuits that seeks damages from oil and gas producers for their role in climate change. Lawyers for BP Plc, Chevron Corp., and other companies on Tuesday filed a petition seeking review of a March 6 ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that allows the Maryland city to make its case in state court, rather than federal court.
