The Biden administration will within days begin restoring California’s power to limit greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles, a shift that will prompt tougher requirements across much of the U.S., according to two people familiar with the matter.
The administration is set to to begin reversing two Trump-era policies that limited California’s ability to chart ambitious vehicle standards, said the people, who asked for anonymity before a formal announcement. California’s requirements set a model for the nation and are followed by states representing more than a third of the U.S. auto market.
