Approving a White House supplemental funding request of $2.16 billion for nuclear fuel enrichment—paired with a ban on Russian uranium—is crucial to standing up a US supply chain, the Energy Department’s top nuclear energy official told Congress Thursday.
The additional funding “would really go a long way to expanding the conversion and enrichment facilities that we need in the United States domestically to ensure our fleet” has a sufficient supply of fuel, Kathryn Huff, assistant secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy, told House lawmakers.
