BGOV Bill Summary: H.R. 2964, ‘Do Not Flush’ Wipe Labels (1)

Packages of non-flushable disposable wipes would be required to have “Do Not Flush” labels and symbols under H.R. 2964.

Manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers, and retailers covered by the bill also would be barred from implying that products such as baby, personal care, or household cleaning wipes made with petrochemical-derived fibers can or should be flushed.

The measure, which would take effect a year after its enactment, is intended to limit the environmental impact of flushing wipes, which can enter the wastewater system and cause sewer overflows.
