BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 3616, FERC Review of Grid Rules

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission could block proposed energy rules from other federal agencies if it identifies potential threats to the country’s power grid under H.R. 3616.

Under current law, FERC and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation codevelop reliability standards for the US “bulk-power system” — infrastructure that helps operate interconnected networks of energy transmission. These are comprised of large-scale generators and transmission lines that transport energy across long distances.
