Bezos’ Earth Fund Starts Nonprofit Allowing Tax-Free Donations

Jeff Bezos’ Earth Fund, a $10 billion commitment to fight climate change, created a nonprofit arm that allows the billionaire to make donations tax-free.

The Bezos Earth Fund Foundation was started in February 2023, according to a November tax filing. It was granted status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in January 2024, according to a letter from the Internal Revenue Service, allowing tax-free contributions.

At the end of 2023, the period the latest filing covers, the foundation reported no assets or revenue and only one expense: a $13.9 million payment to the Bezos Earth Fund LLC for “philanthropic advisory services. ...
