Beef Processor Fined for Failure to Comply With Clean Water Act

A subsidiary of JBS will pay $275,000 in civil penalties to resolve allegations that it violated the Clean Water Act in Grand Island, Neb., according to the EPA Monday.

Between 2018 and 2023, Swift Beef Company allegedly exceeded permit limits for biochemical oxygen demand, chloride, ammonia, nitrogen, and total suspended solids at least 50 times.

The company previously paid a $1.2 million penalty for similar violations, the Environmental Protection Agency said.
