It’s not that easy being green.
As more environmentally-conscious drivers trade their BMWs for Teslas, they could just be switching from one fossil fuel to another. While two-thirds of power-sector investments will be poured into lower-carbon solar and wind infrastructure, expansion will still trail the pace of electric-vehicle adoption and demand-growth for electricity needed to power them, according to Peter Gaw, managing director at Standard Chartered Plc.
That means the electricity to recharge EV batteries will predominantly be produced from fossil fuels such as natural gas, he said on the sidelines of an Oct. 23 conference in Singapore. ...
