Battery Storage Seeing Boom From Climate Law, Other Targets

Passage of US climate legislation went a long way toward putting battery storage on a level playing field with booming wind and solar power—but more actions will be needed to make batteries a key tool for tackling climate change, industry representatives said Thursday.

The Inflation Reduction Act tax and climate law signed by President Joe Biden in August made standalone battery storage projects eligible for their own Investment Tax Credit in what industry watchers say was a long-awaited “decoupling” of the past incentive, which had essentially linked battery tax credits to solar power.
