Ban on Goods Containing ‘Forever Chemicals’ Passed in Colorado

The sale of carpets, cosmetics, food packaging, children’s products and other goods containing “forever chemicals” would be banned in Colorado under a bill passed by the state legislature on Wednesday.

If signed by Gov. Jared Polis (D), products containing per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) would be barred from sale starting in 2024. PFAS are called “forever chemicals” because some of them don’t break down.

  • The legislation, H.B. 1345, would also prohibit the sale of fabric treatment, textile furnishings, upholstered furniture, and oil and gas products that contain PFAS.
