Avangrid Hydropower Plan Gets Preliminary Nod in Maine

An Avangrid Inc. plan to deliver hydroelectric energy from Quebec to Massachusetts through Maine moved closer to winning regulatory approval in Maine after energy advisers there recommended that it move ahead.

Avangrid’s $950 million New England Clean Energy Connect project would deliver 1,200 megawatts of hydropower along 145 miles of power lines from Quebec through Maine and into Massachusetts to help the Bay State meet its clean energy goals.

The three-member Maine Public Utilities Commission is expected to vote this spring whether to grant a certificate to the project, following 18 months of hearings that recently ended. ...
