Auto Shop Hit with Suit Over Coal Rolling Tech for Diesel Trucks

A Connecticut auto parts shop sold nearly 500 illegal emission control defeat devices, according to a suit brought by the US Department of Justice.

SDP LLC, known as Street Diesel Performance, promoted and listed mechanisms that interfered with factory installed exhaust fume re-circulation, resulting in black smoke emissions known as “rolling coal,” according to the complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Connecticut.

The company’s website included “several manuals, with Defendant’s logo at the top of them, which provide the installer with instructions to remove specific emission control devices,” the suit said.
