Canada-based Red Deer Exhaust Inc. and Arkansas-based Thunder Diesel & Performance Company will pay a $1.6 million penalty to resolve allegations that they violated the Clean Air Act by selling “defeat devices,” the Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday.

Red Deer Exhaust Inc., doing business as Flo~Pro Performance Exhaust, allegedly sold more than 100,000 defeat devices, which bypass or disable vehicle emissions control systems, in the US, the agency said.

Flo~Pro has agreed to stop manufacturing and selling these devices, and Thunder Diesel has shut down its operations, according to the EPA.
