Australia’s chemicals regulator has recommended a ban on the use of dibutyl phthalate in cosmetics because of risks to human health.
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is widely used as a plasticizer in manufactured goods and surface coatings and as a fragrance base for household, personal care and cosmetic products.
The regulator, known as NICNAS, concluded in a report released Nov. 5 that there is an “unacceptable” risk of reproductive toxicity from the use of cosmetics containing DBP.
