As Poland Plans Commercial Nuclear Plants, Agency Foresees Debate Over Waste Storage

WARSAW—The Polish government could have problems getting public approval for the construction of nuclear waste storage facilities after the anticipated 2020 completion of its first commercial nuclear power plant, a National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) spokesman told BNA Feb. 28.

“Nuclear waste storage is a hot issue,” Stanislaw Latek said. “It is more controversial for the public than construction of the nuclear plants.”

Latek spoke with BNA after the Polish council of ministers approved two draft documents Feb. 22 dealing with nuclear energy.
