Conservation groups on Wednesday sued the US Army Corps of Engineers for granting a Clean Water Act permit for a surface mine expected to affect streams and wetlands in West Virginia.
The agency’s analysis for the Turkeyfoot Surface Mine was defective and violated the CWA and National Environmental Policy Act, according to Coal River Mountain Watch, Appalachian Voices, West Virginia Highlands Conservancy, and Sierra Club in their complaint filed with the US District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
