Arizona Tribes Asks Judge to Halt Construction of SunZia Line

The Tohono O’odham Nation and San Carlos Apache Tribe asked a federal judge to pause construction of a high-voltage transmission line expected to cut through Arizona’s San Pedro Valley.

In their motion for a preliminary injunction, the tribes, Center for Biological Diversity, and others said that if construction of the SunZia Southwest Transmission Project continues, significant cultural resources will be irretrievably lost or impaired. Construction will also negatively affect the plants, animals, and water resources that are sacred to the tribes, they said.
