Arizona, Nevada Split Over Steyer-Backed Clean Power Measures

Voters in Arizona and Nevada split over measures backed by hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer requiring electric companies to get half their power from renewable energy by 2030.

The initiative in Arizona was defeated, and the Nevada measure prevailed, according to the Associated Press. The Nevada measure will need to be approved by a second ballot initiative to become law.

Steyer, best known for his push to impeach President Donald Trump, spent millions backing the the ballot initiatives. His effort in Arizona encountered fierce resistance from Pinnacle West Capital Corp.’s Arizona Public Service, the state’s biggest utility.
