Arizona Farmers Back Leaving Land Fallow to Keep Water Flowing

Farmers in central Arizona are willing to let more than a third of their land lay fallow under a state plan to cut their water supply to address the ongoing drought, but they’re calling on lawmakers to ensure the industry survives.

The Arizona Legislature and Republican Gov. Doug Ducey (R) are racing to complete a Colorado River drought plan that keeps more water in Lake Mead, the reservoir that serves the state as its levels continue to drop.
