The Biden administration intends to issue a decision to authorize a zinc and manganese mine in Arizona by 2026, a move to shore up US critical mineral supply chains, according to a timeline published by the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council.

The independent federal agency’s proposed permitting timetable for South32’s Hermosa project, published Wednesday, comes two months after it was announced as the first critical mineral mining project to be covered by the FAST-41 permitting process.
