Argentine Court Sentences Two Men On Criminal Charges for Illegal Pesticide Use

BUENOS AIRES—In the first case of its kind, an Argentine federal court issued conditional prison sentences Aug. 21 to two men found guilty of spraying pesticides on fields near residential areas.

Criminal Court No. 1 in the central city of Cordoba sentenced soybean plantation owner Jorge Parra and airplane pilot Edgardo Pancello to three-year conditional prison terms each on charges of environmental pollution under Hazardous Wastes Law No. 24051, the Cordoba Province judiciary authority reported. Co-defendant Jorge Gabrielli was cleared of all charges.
