Appeals Court Awards $17M in Damages To Utility for Costs of Nuclear Waste Storage

A federal appeals court May 18 awarded approximately $17 million in damages to a utility company to cover costs of storing spent nuclear fuel that would have gone to the government’s Yucca Mountain storage facility (Yankee Atomic Electric Co. v. United States).

The award also covers the cost of Nuclear Regulatory Commission fees associated with storing the material in a wet nuclear storage pool.
