Apex Sued for Lead Paint Violations in New York City Apartments

Apex Building Co. violated lead paint safety regulations during renovations of low-income apartment buildings in New York City, according to a lawsuit filed by the United States.

Apex, which was hired to perform renovations in various apartments presumed to contain lead-based paint, failed to follow mandatory safe work practices and allowed lead dust to spread beyond the work area, the US says in its lawsuit. The company lacked necessary certifications and training, didn’t maintain required records, and didn’t inform building owners and occupants about lead exposure risks, the suit says.
