Analyst: Brazil Wind, Biomass Energy Auction Flat Due to Timeline for Delivering Power

Brazil’s latest auction of future wind and biomass-fueled thermoelectric power sold very little of either because developers felt the financial risks involved with delivering electricity from such projects in just over two years were too high, an industry representative told Bloomberg BNA.

“Developers wanting to sell wind power at the auction knew that transmission lines had not yet been strung in 75 percent of the regions where they had wind farm projects, which created considerable risk that those lines would not be strung in two years,” Elbia Gannoum, president of the Brazilian Association of Wind Power Producers (Abeeólica), told Bloomberg ...
