Ameren Missouri to Retire Coal Plant After Air Pollution Ruling

Ameren Missouri told a federal court in the state Tuesday that it will shut down a coal plant 15 years ahead of schedule instead of installing air pollution controls.

Retiring the Rush Island Energy Center near Festus, Mo., will be better for the environment, and on a shorter timeframe, than installing wet flue gas desulfurization technology, according to the company’s filing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
