Ameren Missouri Granted Mediator for Pollution Control Dispute

Coal plant operator Ameren Missouri won its bid for a private mediator to potentially resolve its 13-year legal battle over excess pollution.

In an order issued Tuesday, St. Louis federal court Judge Rodney W. Sippel compelled the US government and Ameren to complete third-party arbitration over remedies to Clean Air Act violations in September. Additionally, the parties must schedule a mitigation hearing next month regarding Ameren’s progress in reducing excess sulfur dioxide emissions.
