An Alaska not-for-profit comprised of Native American entities is challenging the Trump administration’s cancellation of conservation efforts to protect a portion of Alaska’s North Slope from oil and gas activities.
“Central to the Iñupiat way of life are caribou, which are among the most dependable and versatile resources on the North Slope,” said Nuiqsut Trilateral Inc. in its lawsuit against the Interior Department filed Wednesday with the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
The corporation promotes the protection of the Teshekpuk Caribou Herd and its habitat, including the Teshekpuk Lake area.
