Airlines in EU Face Wait For Greenhouse Gas Emissions Clarity

It could be two years before airlines operating in the European Union learn how the international CORSIA pact to control aviation greenhouse gas emissions will work alongside the EU emissions trading system.

The EU must amend its emissions trading law to implement CORSIA, but an amendment would only be proposed in mid-2021 after an impact assessment, as part of a broader proposal on revising the emissions trading system, European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean told the European Parliament’s environment committee Monday.
