Aid for Airlines Should Include Climate Requirements: Democrats

Any aid for U.S. airlines and cruise ship industries should include requirements to address pollution, Senate Democrats say in a letter to House and Senate leaders.

  • “Given the poor environmental records of some companies in these industries, we believe that any such financial assistance should be paired with requirements that companies act in a more responsible fashion,” Democrats say in letter
  • NOTE: Letter led by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, signed by seven other Democratic senators
  • Democrats say any “massive bailout” should require reductions in carbon emissions
