Agencies Seek Input on ‘Buy American’ Impact on EV Charging

The Energy and Transportation departments want public input on how the Biden administration’s “Buy American” effort could impact its build-out of electric vehicle chargers.

The comment request comes amid concerns over the availability of U.S.-manufactured and assembled vehicle charging components, the departments said in a Federal Register information request slated for publication in the coming days.

President Joe Biden’s Buy American push—a governmentwide effort to boost domestic content in federal procurement and increase focus on goods critical to domestic supply chains—comes as the U.S. is about to pour billions of dollars into electric vehicle charging.
