Affordable Desalination Has Reversed Israel’s Water Fortunes, Says Official

An official of Israel’s national water carrier said the water situation of the historically drought-stricken country had been transformed by the recent realization of affordable desalination projects, producing that country’s first-ever water surplus and appetite to sell the resource in the international marketplace.

This is “the first year we had excess of water,” Arie Brish, president of Mekorot Texas-Israel, said Oct. 6. “Now the [Israeli] government is looking for opportunities to export the water.”
