Advocates Decry Planned Mercury Rule Cutdown in Public Hearing

New tighter rules limiting mercury and heavy metal emissions from power plants should remain as strict as possible, clean air advocates told the EPA on Thursday.

The Environmental Protection Agency held a virtual hearing to allow oral public comment on the Trump administration’s plans to repeal strengthened mercury and air toxics rules, also known as MATS. The hearing was EPA’s second this week, following one for its proposed repeal of power plant carbon rules on Tuesday.
