Beyond Nuclear has launched two separate lawsuits against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Holtec Decommissioning International LLC seeking to stop the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan from being restored.
Holtec acquired the Covert, Mich., facility post-decommissioning and asked the NRC for an exemption to rescind previous certifications so that it could amend its operating license and start up Palisades again.
Anti-nuclear nonprofit Beyond Nuclear and other groups are asking the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan in both suits to declare the exemption unlawful and prevent its approval.
