Academies to Probe Federal Report on Cancer-Causing Substances

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will review the scientific quality and utility of a federal report that lists chemicals known or anticipated to cause cancer.

The academies announced by email Monday that it’s accepting comment through March 26 on the robustness and scientific rigor of the process the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) uses to evaluate chemicals, viruses, X-rays, and other substances for inclusion in the Report on Carcinogens along with views on the report’s usefulness.
